Homebuyers: Don’t Make These 3 Mistakes

There are three critical missteps that all homebuyers need to avoid. The first one will drive you nuts, the second will open you up for liability, and the third one will cost you money. Here are three home-buying mistakes that you should avoid at all costs:

1. Signing up for multiple search websites. Realtors pay these websites to generate business. If you’re using up to three different sites, you could have 10 different agents texting, calling, and emailing you all at the same time.

2. Calling the number on the “for sale” sign.
The agent representing a home seller will not represent you the right way. You have to keep this in mind. The person listing the property has a fiduciary responsibility to the seller, not to you. A lot of our clients have made this mistake in the past, and you can open yourself up to a ton of liability by hiring the same agent as the seller.
Dual agency is the No. 1 lawsuit in real estate. Have someone you trust represent you in your home purchase.

3. Not partnering with the right lender. The mortgage lender you hire to do your loan is going to be invaluable. Mortgages are not just about the interest rate; many other things are going on behind the scenes. You don’t want to call just any lender, you want one that you can trust.
